Alumni Profile

Dr Muhammad Iqbal Irham is a lecturer at North Sumatra State Islamic University (UIN-SU) in Medan. He obtained both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the Sharia Faculty of the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of North Sumatra, and his PhD from Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) in Jakarta.

Iqbal has contributed to several national scientific seminars, including Epistemology and the Applied Model of Sufistic Psychotherapy at the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Sunan Gunung Djati Islamic State University in Bandung, Sufistic Psychotherapy: Learning From Experience, and Psychotherapy in Islam at the Qur’anic Sufism (Tasawuf Qurani) Institute of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at UIN-SU in Medan, and Ruhani (spiritual) Therapy in Islamic Psychotherapy: Theory and Practice. He has also published several journal articles and books, such as “Psycho-Physio Therapy as a Local Wisdom: an Empirical Sufi Based Method”, Heritage of Nusantara, International Journal of Religious Literature and Heritage.(2017) and Akhlak Tasawuf, Islamic Character Building (2018).

Iqbal has travelled extensively for professional development including programs such as Peace Education Training in Korea (2018), and Sholat and Breath Therapy Training in Malaysia (2022). He has also delivered more than a hundred community based and professional training programs in the field of spiritual therapy.

Program Highlights

The AIMEP activities were excellent. The discipline of the Australian society in regards to cleanliness and tidiness is something I will always remember. I also learnt that Muslims in Australia are active in the development of their religious life. My own self-discipline has been influenced as a result.
