The Australia-ASEAN Muslim Exchange Program (AAMEP) connects young Muslims and emerging leaders aged 23-40 who are actively contributing to their communities in Australia and countries in the ASEAN region. The program builds on the successful 20-year history of the Australia-Indonesia Muslim Exchange Program (AIMEP).
In 2024, the AAMEP will again be an in-person program, open to Muslim community leaders, changemakers, and activists aged 23-40 from Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Brunei Darussalam.
We welcome a range of individuals active in their communities and interested in learning about and connecting with the Muslim communities of other countries in our region. Past delegates have included community organisers, educators, scholars, activists, religious leaders, lawyers, artists, entrepreneurs, and many others representing diverse aspects of the region’s many Muslim communities.
Through the program, delegates experience the rich diversity of multicultural and Muslim communities in Australia and across Southeast Asia. You will engage in meaningful dialogue, and intellectual, intercultural and interreligious exchange with fellow delegates and key individuals and organisations, strengthening relationships between Muslim communities in Australia and across the region.
The AAMEP is an initiative of the Australia-ASEAN Council of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and is delivered by Mosaic Connections.

Established in 2002, the Australia-Indonesia Institute’s Muslim Exchange Program (MEP) establishes and nurtures the ongoing contact between emerging leaders of Muslim communities in both Australia and Indonesia.
Australian AIMEP delegates reflect on their time in Indonesia – the progressive nature of Indonesian society, the active engagement of women in all spheres of life, and the importance of people-to-people connections.
